The
3rd Generation Mazda MX-5 (NC)
Production
of the third-generation NC model began in May 2005
The
exterior styling resembles the original design but unlike
the update from NA to NB the NC model shares no components
with the earlier NB
The
suspension has changed from a 4-wheel double wishbone
setup to a front wishbone/rear multilink setup. Technologies
like traction control and stability control were added
to increase driveability too
The
NC was launched with a special version called the "Launch
Edition". This model featured added chrome accents
and special alloy wheels. Just 300 units were available
in the UK and these were delivered in advance of any
other standard models
In
July 2006 Mazda unveiled a Roadster Coupé with
a three-piece folding hardtop adding 36 kg (79 lb) to
the weight of a comparable model with a soft top. The
hard top takes just 12 seconds to raise or lower without
losing any of the existing boot space when folded down
For
2008, Mazda released the Niseko, a special version which
featurned Icy Blue paint with saddle brown soft top
and matching leather steering wheel, seats, and hand
brake grip with blue stitching
This
model also featured a silver-accented gear knob, dark-silver
finished instrument panel with chrome accents, special
17" (430 mm) alloy wheels, stainless steel MX-5
scuff plates and chrome front headlight bezels, grille
surround and fog lamp surround
