Mazda
MX-5 California
The
California model was based on a standard 1800cc MX-5.
Only 300 units were made between May and October 1995
and cost £15,795.00 to buy new
This
special version was finished in Sunburst Yellow and
sported 15" alloy wheels, low profile tyres and
locking wheel nuts
The
interior was nicely trimmed with black cloth seats and
a sports steering wheel. Each vehicle had a plaque attached
to the centre console which displayed its own unique
build number
Mazda
had not used the Sunburst Yellow exterior on a UK model
before and this vibrant colour was introduced to mark
the 5th anniversary of the MX-5
The
colour was only ever used again on the later Mk.2
CALIFORNIA models
Standard
specification also included security immobiliser,
power steering and alloy wheels and a leather owners
wallet was supplied with each vehicle
Despite
the limited specification list the California proved
to be one of the most popular special version MX-5
Potential
buyers were disappointed to learn that Mazda chose to
keep production numbers low which ensured exclusivity
and in time maintained strong prices on the used vehicle
market
